UT Tyler Theatre's 10th Anniversary Travel/Study May 14-29The University of Texas at Tyler Theatre Program is accepting reservations for its 10th anniversary international travel/study program in Europe, scheduled for May 14-29, Dr. James Hatfield, professor and director of theatre, has announced.
The travel/study, which will take place during UT Tyler's summer intersession, is open to all students and area residents who register either for credit or on a no-credit option.
Priority reservations will be accepted through March 15 with final arrangements required by March 30. To make reservations or for information about the cost of the trip call Dr. Mary Ellen Wright, assistant professor of theatre, at (903) 566-7289.
University scholarship travel-grants are available to students.
The travel/study led by Hatfield and Wright will combine preparatory classroom instruction with foreign travel and theatre attendance. The tour will begin with a two-day stay in London. Participants will visit Shakespeare's London and the Shakespearean Globe Theatre before taking the Eurostar Chunnel Train to France for a two-day tour of Paris, where they will attend a production in the Comedie Francais.
Participants will take a first-class sleeper train to Munich, where they will visit cultural and historical sites. A side trip will be taken to Bayreuth, the site of the Festspielhaus designed by composer Richard Wagner and opened in 1876. Margraval, the theatre built in 1744 by renowned theatre architect Guiseppe Bibiena, also will be toured.
From Munich, participants will travel to Berlin for three days to view its sights including the Bertold Brecht's Berliner Ensemble Theatre. A side trip to the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam will be included. The group also will travel to Brussels before returning to London for two days.
The trip includes tickets to five to seven theatre performances in London, Paris, Munich and Berlin.
For 10 years, the UT Tyler Friends of the Arts has continually provided financial support to assist students participating in the travel/study program.
