UT Tyler Professor Receives Grant to Assist in Internet Course Development

April 7, 2004

Dr. Davor Jedlicka, professor of sociology at The University of Texas at Tyler, has received a competitive grant to participate in symposiums and workshops on “Creating and Sustaining Learning Communities.”

The University of Texas TeleCampus awarded grants to UT Tyler and The University of Texas Medical Medical Branch in Galveston.

During the next academic year, grantees are expected to conduct workshops on developing and teaching Internet courses. Workshops will be conducted at The University of Texas at Austin for the TeleCampus faculty.

The funding also included one-week participation, March 22-26, in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, organized under the auspices of the Learning International Network Consortium. Scholars from 25 nations with experience in distance and Internet learning presented the most recent findings on techniques of knowledge transference, critical thinking and identity development to sustain lifelong learning via the Internet.

Dr. Jedlicka’s involvement with the TeleCampus is through teaching the graduate course “Internet Communities.”
