![]() UT Tyler Announces Development Council for Palestine CampusJanuary 7, 2004 Thirteen Palestine area community leaders have been named to the development council for The University of Texas at Tyler Palestine Campus, announced UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry. The development council is responsible for assisting in the fundraising and promotional efforts of the campus. “We are so pleased to be working with such wonderful community leaders. Their expertise and commitment to the UT Tyler Palestine Campus will be very helpful in our efforts to broaden the exposure of the campus,” said Nancy Lamar, UT Tyler executive director of university advancement. Council members include Brenda Barber, David Barnard, Judge Bascom Bentley, Johnny Elfarr, Frank George, Jackie Gragg, Andrew Gregory, Larry Ivy, Byron Ryder, Cathy Stark, Blake Starkey, Ken Teel and Cad Williams. The efforts to bring UT Tyler to the Palestine area began in 1995 at the request of community leaders, led by Dr. Lee Roy Mathis. The nursing program was offered first followed by courses from the College of Business and Technology and the College of Arts and Sciences in 1997. The campus currently enrolls 131 students, a 20 percent increase over last year’s enrollment. Registration for the 2004 spring semester is Jan. 9 at the UT Tyler main campus in Tyler. Students can complete undergraduate degrees in nursing and business management entirely at the Palestine Campus. Additionally, courses are available in technology, health and kinesiology and liberal arts. The UT Tyler Palestine Campus, located at 1820 W. Spring, includes classrooms complete with interactive video technology, nursing skills lab, computer lab, library, health assessment lab, conference room and faculty offices.
