UT Tyler Students Awarded History Scholarships

Erinn Barnes of Tyler and Sandy Devisscher of Lindale are recipients of history scholarships at The University of Texas at Tyler.

The scholarships are awarded to declared history majors in recognition of their excellent academic performance and for the purpose of encouraging the study of history at UT Tyler.

Devisscher is the recipient of the 2004 Edwin Morgan Smyrl and Frank H. Smyrl Endowed History Scholarship Award for $1,000. The scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Frank H. Smyrl, the first historian to join the UT Tyler faculty, and his brother, historian Edwin Morgan Smyrl. Frank Smyrl was the founding department chair and dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

Barnes is the recipient of the 2004 Phil Stacy Jackson History Scholarship Award for $500. The scholarship honors the memory of historian Phil Stacy Jackson, a distinguished history graduate of UT Tyler.
