May 7, 2004
The University of Texas at Tyler nursing program received a commendation
from the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas in recognition
of graduates’ 97.6 percent annual pass rate on the state board examination,
Dr. Linda Klotz, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, announced.
UT Tyler nursing graduates of the Tyler, Longview and Palestine campuses
were cited for their high pass rate of the NCLEX-RN for the 2003 examination
year.
“This commendation honors both nursing faculty and students, who
worked together to achieve these outcomes,’’ said Dr. Klotz.
“The College of Nursing continues to work toward achieving our mission
of providing quality education and quality health care for the people
of East Texas.”
For the past year and a half, UT Tyler has maintained a 97.6 percent pass
rate for first time examinees of the NCLEX-RN, according to statistical
information released by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
The national pass rate for first-time examinees is 87 percent, according
to the council.
The UT Tyler undergraduate nursing program offers the basic undergraduate
track for unlicensed students, as well as three accelerated Mobility in
Nursing Education tracks to licensed nurses. These tracks include the
LVN to BSN, RN to BSN and RN to MSN tracks.
The master of science in nursing program builds upon the undergraduate
program to support specialization in education, administration or advanced
practice. The MSN degree provides a solid foundation for a doctoral level
education.
