![]() Distinguished UT Alumnus Mike Myers to Speak at UT Tyler Patriot Golf ClassicMay 13, 2004 Mike Myers, an outstanding alumnus of The University of Texas and developer of The University of Texas Golf Club will be the featured speaker at the UT Tyler Patriot Golf Classic, President Rodney H. Mabry announced. Myers will address the participants, sponsors and guests of the Patriot Golf Classic on Monday, May 17 at Hollytree Country Club. The sold-out amateur tournament has a complete field of 36 teams teeing off in the morning and afternoon. Proceeds benefit the UT Tyler scholarship program for students at the Tyler, Longview and Palestine campuses. Chairman of the board and owner of Myers Financial Corporation and Myers Development Corporation of Dallas, Myers holds a bachelor’s degree in business and law degree from UT Austin. In November 2003, his dream of building a golf course in the Hill Country that would serve UT, central Texas and Austin became a reality with the opening of the 7,008-yard, par 71 course at Steiner Ranch. A percentage of revenues from the course will support the UT men’s and women’s golf program operations and scholarships. He funded the 20,000-seat Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium at UT. Myers has owned and operated five country clubs and owned controlling interests in seven Texas banks over the past 29 years. As a real estate developer, he has created communities that house more than 20,000 residents. Originally from Olney, Texas, Myers has been chair of The University of Texas Chancellor’s Council and was co-founder of the Texas Scholars Program. He has been a member of the UT Development Board, Business Administration Advisory Council and the Texas Exes Executive Council. He is the 1996 recipient of the UT Distinguished Alumnus Award. |
