UT Tyler Nursing Faculty to Present Research in Ireland
May 6, 2004
Eight faculty members in The University of Texas at Tyler nursing program
were selected to make presentations at the 15th International Nursing
Research Congress to be held July 22-24 in Dublin, Ireland.
Sponsored by the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing,
the congress will feature more than 500 research presentations from the
United States and several other countries. The research presentations
were selected from more than 750 research abstracts.
All abstracts submitted by UT Tyler faculty members were selected for
presentation.
“The fact that all of the abstracts were accepted for presentation
makes quite a statement about the quality of research done by the nursing
faculty,’’ said Dr. Linda Klotz, dean of the College of Nursing
and Health Sciences.
Presenters from UT Tyler, all of whom are members of the Sigma Theta Tau,
will include:
Dr. Gloria Duke, assistant dean for outreach/research, and Dr. Sue Ellen
Thompson, associate professor of nursing, will present “Motivational
and Influential Factors for Formation of Advance Directives.’’
Dr. Barbara Haas, associate professor of nursing; Dr. Gayle Varnell, assistant
dean for advanced practice; and Dr. Duke will present “Charting
the Course for Nursing Practice.’’
Dr. Danita Alfred, assistant professor of nursing; Dr. Pam Martin, assistant
dean for undergraduate programs; and Dr. Susan Yarbrough, assistant dean
for graduate programs, will present “The Perpetuation of Professional
Values: A Comparison of the Professional Values of Nurse Leaders With
the Professional Values of Graduating Nursing Students.’’
Dr. Carole McKenzie, assistant professor of nursing, will present an assessment
of hospital staff attitudes regarding the implementation of a bedside
