Steinway Artist Robert Roux to Perform at UT Tyler

The University of Texas at Tyler Friends of the Arts will sponsor a piano recital and master class featuring Steinway artist Dr. Robert Roux on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22-23, at the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.

The recital will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, with the master class scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. Open to the public, both events will be held in the Braithwaite Recital Hall.

Recital selections will include the “Waldstein’’ sonata by Beethoven and music by Liszt, Haydn and Chopin.
Chair of the keyboard department at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, Roux began his career at age 10 with a performance on the nationally televised “Lawrence Welk Show.’’ He has won several piano competitions in the United States, including the United States Information Agency's Artistic Ambassador Competition and the International Piano Recording Competition. His students have been frequent prizewinners and award recipients in the United States and internationally.

Roux’s performances include appearances at the White House, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., Merkin Concert Hall in New York, Stude Concert Hall in Houston on the Horowitz Steinway, St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music and Villa Pignatelli in Naples. He has toured as recitalist and concerto soloist in 16 countries.

Roux has been associate director of the Prague International Piano Master Classes since 1997, and has served on the faculty of the Van Cliburn Institute, the Moscow International Piano Master Classes, the Paris International Piano Sessions, the Association of German Music Schools and the Amalfi Coast festival in Italy.

He is listed in Who's Who in America (2003) and was interviewed as one of the top teachers in Benjamin Saver’s publication, The Most Wanted Piano Teachers in the USA.
