![]() UT Tyler Receives $500,000 for Braithwaite Endowed Faculty Chair October 6, 2004 “Once again, the generosity of the Braithwaite Trust will aid us in our mission to provide quality education to the East Texas region. This endowment will allow us to add another outstanding educator to our faculty,” President Mabry said. Once filled, this position will be devoted to teaching, research and service, as well as working with other faculty to develop new degree programs and cooperative teaching programs with UT Health Center at Tyler and other institutions. This individual will conduct cutting-edge research in biochemistry and seek major grants from federal and state agencies, corporations and research associations. An active supporter of the academic and cultural life of UT Tyler, the late Mrs. Braithwaite was honored in 1992 as the university’s Patriot of the Year for her generosity, which also established the David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Building, Braithwaite Gardens and Braithwaite Recital Hall at UT Tyler. The late Dr. David Braithwaite became president and chief executive officer of Nalco Chemical Company in Chicago in 1965. During his tenure with Nalco, Howe-Baker Engineers, Inc., of Tyler was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company. |
