UT Tyler Professor Inducted Into American Academy of Nursing

December 5, 2005

Dr. Lynn Wieck, Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Professor for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at The University of Texas at Tyler, was inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing on Nov. 12.

FAAN membership is awarded by invitation only for the recognition of outstanding accomplishments within the nursing profession and to health care.

For the last five years, Dr. Wieck has conducted research on solutions to the nursing shortage including national studies on retaining young nurses under 35, and mature, experienced nurses over age 40 who are considering retirement.

“I hope the connections through the Academy can help with our doctoral program efforts as well as with our research and global outreach,” said Dr. Wieck.

UT Tyler has been authorized to plan for a Ph.D. program in nursing, which will be one of only seven nursing doctoral programs in the state.

Dr. Wieck previously served as chief executive officer for Management Solutions for Healthcare and has taught at Texas Woman’s University and the University of the Incarnate Word.

One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service.  More than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 5,700 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
