The University of Texas at Tyler will hold Freshman Convocation 9 a.m. – noon Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Dr. Howard Patterson, UT Tyler interim vice president for student affairs and external relations, announced.

Convocation schedule:

• 9:30 a.m. Welcome by Dr. Robert Sterken, UT Tyler associate professor of political science.

• 9:35 a.m. Remarks by Dr. Richard Osburn, UT Tyler provost and vice president for academic affairs.

• 9:45 a.m. Remarks by UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry.

• 9:55 a.m. Award-winning author and journalist Dr. Richard Rodriguez will discuss his book, Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodriguez. A copy of the book was given to every freshman as part of the UT Tyler 2007 Freshman Summer Reading Program.

• 10:45 a.m. Closing remarks.

• 11 a.m. – noon Book signing in the UT Tyler Cowan Center Lobby. Refreshments will be served.
