New Editor in Chief Named for UT Tyler's Student Newspaper

Allen Arrick of Colleyville has been named the next Patriot Talon editor in chief at The University of Texas at Tyler, Vanessa Curry, Patriot Talon adviser, announced.
The university’s Student Publications Board named him to this position during a recent meeting.
Arrick, a senior journalism major, succeeds Anthony Croff of Mineola, who is graduating this May.
“I’m excited and I look forward to the challenge of leading this newspaper,” Arrick said.
He previously served on the Talon staff as the opinion and features editor as well as design editor.
An award-winning journalist, Arrick earned 11 honors from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association. He also was named a 2008 TIPA Frank Buckley Scholarship winner.
Plans are to change the biweekly newspaper to a weekly publication beginning the fall 2008 semester, according to Arrick.
“Making a weekly newspaper is going to be much more difficult than our current biweekly schedule but it will be much more fulfilling and will give students more up-to-date information,” he said.
