Internal Research Grants Awarded at UT Tyler

Seven faculty members at The University of Texas at Tyler were awarded internal research grants for the 2008-09 academic year, Dr. Arlene Horne, associate vice president for research and federal relations, announced.
- Dr. Gloria Duke, associate professor of nursing, received $7,500 to establish a scientifically-based foundation for the delivery of culturally-competent end-of-life care.
- Dr. Barbara Hart, associate professor of criminal justice, received $7,500 to conduct preliminary analysis for a mental health court in Smith County.
- Dr. Rachel Sailor, assistant professor of art history, received $4,612 to study Tyler-based Depression-era murals.
- Dr. Kirk Zinck, assistant professor of psychology, received $4,481 to investigate preferred qualities of high school counselors through students’ perspectives.
- Dr. Peter Rogers, assistant professor of civil engineering, received $4,000 to develop a water demand forecasting tool for the city of Tyler.
- Drs. Michael McGinnis and Torey Nalbone, assistant professors of civil engineering, received $2,698 to investigate double roof fires to improve firefighter safety.
These research awards are intended to provide faculty members with the necessary funds to complete preliminary research needed for external funding competition.
