Archaeology Awareness Month Events at UT Tyler

The University of Texas at Tyler will hold special public events next month in recognition of Archaeology Awareness Month, Dr. Martin Slann, College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.

Scheduled events are as follows:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 2

Dr. Thomas Guderjan, UT Tyler assistant professor of anthropology, will give the lecture “Exploring the Ancient Maya Civilization” at 3 p.m. in the University Center theater.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 9

Dr. Wade Meade, UT Tyler adjunct lecturer, will give the lecture “The Auguratorium of the Palatine: One of Rome’s Oldest Structures” at 3 p.m. in the UC theater.

Lecture sponsors are the UT Tyler Global Awareness through Education and Honors Programs.

  • Friday, Oct. 26

Dr. Kent Reilly, professor of anthropology at Texas State University, will present a Texas Archeology Society lecture “The Art and Iconography of the Ancient Caddo People of East Texas” at 7 p.m. in the UC theater. This TAS public forum lecture is partially funded by Humanities Texas.

Anthropology study at UT Tyler is within the Department of Social Sciences. The department heavily contributes to providing UT Tyler students a rich liberal arts education.
