Five students from The University of Texas at Tyler were recognized at the 2013 National Model United Nations-Latin America Conference in Quito, Ecuador, Dr. Marcus Stadelmann, Department of Political Science and History chair, announced.
UT Tyler delegates Alisa Cerney of China Spring, Darby Capps of Kilgore, Bradley Pennington of Arlington, Joanie Brown of Conrad, Mont. and Steven Franks of Tyler received an “Honorable Mention” delegation award. The delegation awards are presented to the top delegations based on teamwork, leadership, speaking and negotiating abilities, knowledge of issues and proper use of procedure rules.
The UT Tyler delegation, representing Germany on five committees, also received the “Outstanding Position Papers” award for papers written for the Commission on Science and Technology for Development and the Commission on the Status of Women. The position paper award recognizes high achievement in preparation as demonstrated through knowledge of the agenda topics, recommendations for courses of action, and the ability to effectively communicate the policies of one’s country.
The 10-day conference brought together more than 120 students from 26 schools to address topics of importance to the international community. All student attendees also participated in community service activities across San Cristobal Island, Galapagos.
