Student leaders and organizations at The University of Texas at Tyler were recognized during the 2013 Student Leadership and Service Awards Banquet, Ona Tolliver, assistant vice president and dean of students, announced.

Among awards presented, student leader Yannir Vijil of Houston received the “Emerging Leader Award” as well as UT Tyler Student Government Association’s “Extra Mile Award.”

“Outstanding Student Affairs Professionals” were among new awards presented this year. The UT Tyler Patriot Leadership Team and 2013 Patriot Academy members were also recognized.

University students, faculty and staff submitted nominees, and a selection committee consisting of faculty and staff chose winners. The UT Tyler Department of Student Life and Leadership sponsored the awards reception.

SGA Spirit Award – John Bruhn of Tyler

SGA Senator of the Year – Rebecca Hansen of Tyler

SGA Project of the Year – Hansen and Clara Goebel of Tyler

Dr. Robert Jones Leadership Award – Baylee Talaska of San Antonio

Outstanding Community Service Individual – Christine Wright of Jacksonville

Legacy Award – Steven Goad of Tyler

Excellence in Service Award – Pi Kappa Phi

Greek Cup – Delta Gamma

Fraternity Man of the Year – Dylan Groce of Longview

Sorority Woman of the Year – Colleen McDermott of Arlington

Outstanding Student Organization Member (tie) – Temple Mims of Tyler and Andrea Webb of Allen

Outstanding Student Organization President – Aimee Allen of Chandler

Outstanding Student Organization (tie) – Psi Chi and Psychology Club

Outstanding Student Affairs Professional: Graduate Assistant – Christina Gibson of Greenville

Outstanding Student Affairs Professional: Full-time – Linda Long, UT Tyler counselor

Outstanding Student Affairs Professional: New Professional – Chase Ragland, UT Tyler student development specialist

Outstanding Student Organization Adviser (tie) – Dr. James Schwane, UT Tyler professor of health and kinesiology and Jennifer Skinner, UT Tyler student development specialist
