UT Tyler to Feature 30th Annual International Exhibition

The University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery will feature the 2015 International Exhibition beginning Tuesday, Jan. 20, Ray Sikes, gallery coordinator, announced.

UT Tyler professor of visual art James R. Pace, originator of the exhibition at the university, serves as juror. He will present a lecture about his selections for the exhibition during a reception 6 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the gallery.

“This is our 30th anniversary sponsoring this exhibition,” Sikes said. “All works in the exhibition are new contemporary works by noted working artist from across the United States and some other countries. At no other gallery in East Texas will one find this level of contemporary art being presented.”

The exhibition will continue through Friday, Feb. 27.

The Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.

Pace holds a master of fine arts from Arizona State University and a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Oklahoma. Pace was appointed to the Oge´ Professorship in Visual Art, the White Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching, and he also received the Chancellor’s Council Teaching Award.

He was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and multiple University Research Grants. Pace trained in the Tamarind Summer Printmaking Program and participated in the International Artist Residency Program in Budapest, Hungary. He continues to serve as juror, lecturer and visiting artist throughout the U.S. and several foreign countries.

Pace has exhibited his work nationally and internationally since 1976 and has received numerous awards for his painting, drawings, prints and mixed media work. His work is in collections from L.A. to New York, from Paris to Punjab. He maintains an active studio practice in East Texas.
