The Tony®-nominated musical Godspell will perform at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center executive director, announced.

Sponsored by Tim and Michelle Brookshire and Dermatology Associates of Tyler, the last performance of the 2013-14 Performing Arts Series will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 3. Media sponsors are KETK, Fox 51, KTBB and KNUE.

Tickets can be purchased for as low as $17 at the UT Tyler Cowan Center box office by calling 903.566.7424 or online at www.cowancenter.org. Box office hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. School or youth groups can purchase a discounted ticket through the box office.

“This is a wonderful, family-friendly musical that has been enjoyed by audiences all over the world, and we are particularly pleased to bring this revival production to the community. It’s a brand new, up-to-date production that is sure to be uplifting,” said Thomae-Morphew.

Godspell started as a college project at Carnegie Mellon University and was then rescored by Stephen Schwartz for an off-Broadway production in 1971 that became a long-running success. This was period where traditional Broadway rules were being broken, and in this case, with an ensemble cast portrayed by the youth of the time.

Schwartz is also the Grammy®- and Academy®-winning composer of the Broadway hits Wicked and Pippin.

A timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love, Godspell features a variety of popular hits like “Day by Day,” “Light of the World” and “Turn Back, O Man.”

“Now you can join in the celebration as a spectacular ensemble of bright young stars stirs your soul, raises your spirit and lifts you right out of your seat,” Thomae-Morphew added.
Godspell was nominated in 2011 for a Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
