Student leaders and organizations at The University of Texas at Tyler were recognized during the 2014 Student Leadership and Service Awards Banquet, Ona Tolliver, assistant vice president and dean of students, announced.

University students, faculty and staff submitted nominees, and a selection committee consisting of faculty and staff chose winners. The UT Tyler Department of Student Life and Leadership sponsored the awards reception.

“This was our eighth time hosting the Student Leadership and Service Awards, and we always look forward to this tradition and encouraging our students to build their legacies in leadership and service,” said Chase Ragland, UT Tyler student development specialist who oversees leadership and service programs within the UT Tyler Department of Student Life and Leadership.

Among awards presented, Andrea Ortiz of Longview received a UT Tyler GiveBack Service Award for outstanding community service. Ortiz documented more than 100 service hours in a single semester.

SGA Senator of the Year – Ashley Valentin of Houston

SGA Project of the Year – University Center Late Night Events: Valentin, McKayla Frank of Houston, Lauren Caldwell of Forney, Matthew Markert of Allen, Derek Blain of Borger and Yule-John Lin of Houston

SGA Extra Mile Award – Caldwell

Dr. Robert Jones Leadership Award – Clara Goebel of Plano

Legacy Award (tie) – Michael Suarez of Tyler and Ariana Riley of Van

Emerging Leader Award – Shawn Rogers of Chandler

Fraternity Man of the Year (tie) – Kevin Berber of Mexico and Suarez

Sorority Woman of the Year – Brittany Mckissack of Plano

Outstanding Student Organization Member – Grigsby

Outstanding Student Organization President (tie) – Nithesh Boyanapally of India and Lee Weisser-Greenbaum of NY

Outstanding Student Organization – UT Tyler National Society of Leadership and Success

Program of the Year – Candle Light Vigil, Alpha Chi Omega

Outstanding Student Affairs Professional: Graduate Assistant – Ifeoluwa Adetoro of Nigeria

Outstanding Student Affairs Professional: Full-time – Adrian Lodge, UT Tyler student development specialist

Outstanding Student Affairs Professional: New Professional – Jessi Reel, UT Tyler student development specialist

Outstanding Student Organization Adviser – Ragland
