UT Tyler Meadows Gallery Exhibition Features Distinguished Mixed Media Artist Karin Broker

The next exhibition at The University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery will feature renowned mixed media artist Karin Broker, Ray Sikes, gallery coordinator, announced.

The exhibition, “more damn girls,” will open on Monday, Oct. 27 with a reception beginning at 6 p.m. Broker will give a short talk about her work during the reception.

“Karin Broker is a preeminent printmaker, draftsman and mixed media artist whose work is respected throughout the country. Her work often deals with personal experiences that parallel social debates of the time, particularly the struggle for equality for women in all realms of our culture,” said James Pace, UT Tyler professor of visual art.

A professor of art at Rice University, Broker’s work is in the collections of many noted museums including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Fogg Museum at Harvard University, Irbit Museum in Russia, The Library of Congress, Milwaukee Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, National Museum of American Art and Smithsonian Institution, among others. She holds a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Iowa and a master of fine arts from the University of Wisconsin.

“Ms. Broker will also give personal critiques to the master of fine arts students on Monday afternoon and facilitate a collage and printing class on Tuesday, Oct. 28 while she is in Tyler,” Sikes added.

The exhibition will continue through Friday, Dec. 5.

The Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.
