UT Tyler to Present Second Senior Exhibition at Fine Arts Complex Gallery

The University of Texas at Tyler Fine Arts Complex Gallery will feature the senior exhibition “Parallel Perceptions” beginning Monday, April 20, Ray Sikes, gallery coordinator, announced.

Featured in this second senior exhibition for the semester are UT Tyler student artists Jennifer Motes of Whitehouse, Kayla Suverkrubbe of Bullard and MK Northum of Tyler.

A public reception with gallery talks will be 6 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at the gallery.

The exhibition, which is executed in partial fulfillment of UT Tyler’s bachelor of fine arts degree, concludes Friday, May 1.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.

“Jennifer abstracts forms into raku-glazed ceramics. Her pieces are based on observations of life and the experience of people and of nature,” Sikes said. “Kayla’s erratic, large scale oil paintings use patterns, figures and setting imbued with cliché to create familiar, but strange associations for the viewer. MK’s printmaking features subjects in black that are set against muted tones and papers. She explores in her bold designs how people are affected by their psychological and physical environment.”

Housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the UT Tyler bachelor of fine arts degree program offers students an opportunity to concentrate in two-dimensional studio art, three-dimensional studio art, multi-media art, art history or general studio art. UT Tyler students may also seek an all-level teaching certification with the degree.
