Creating Solutions: UT Tyler Offers Flexible Way to Earn Executive Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration

The University of Texas at Tyler is giving students interested in receiving an executive master’s in health care administration a different approach to learning. The program is designed for people who are busy, yet still want to further their career and education in health care, Dr. Gordon Whyte, UT Tyler Center for Executive Education executive director, announced.

The UT Tyler EHCA program takes 16 months to complete, and it consists of three courses (nine hours) per semester with the same cohort meeting for a week at the beginning of every semester.

In addition, students complete the semester in an online classroom where they will receive lectures from nationally recognized faculty who all have experience in health care administration.

Faculty is “second to none,” according to program graduate Carol Henson. Henson, now the executive director of behavioral health at UT Health Northeast, says she owes her continuing success in health care to the excellent staff and overall professionalism of the program.

“I was surprised at how easy it was to make a connection from being online,” Henson said. “There was very little guesswork as to what you were taking, when you were taking it and what was needed to successfully navigate the classes.”

One fee covers the entire program, which includes books, materials and most meals during the first week of each semester. The program offers courses such as health care economics, health care finance, health systems management, human resource management and epidemiology. The requirements for the program include a GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, a minimum of three years of experience in health care, three letters of recommendation, official baccalaureate transcripts as well as official post-baccalaureate transcripts, an essay about the American health care system and a personal interview. No GMAT/GRE is required.

According to UT Tyler EHCA program coordinator Sonya Meinert, the program is top-notch in the way classes are set up and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with the faculty and students you so closely work with.

“For people who have busy lives and are looking to further their education in the health care system, the program is the perfect balance,” Meinert said.
