The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University Center has taken the first steps to creating a bachelor of science degree in Industrial Technology Dr. Van Patterson, Longview University Center director, announced.

Dr. Mark Miller, professor and coordinator of the UT Tyler industrial technology and industrial management programs commented, “This semester we will be offering courses in manufacturing processes, plant layout and facilities planning, and a senior level capstone experience. When combined with available online courses, students can complete 12 or more hours toward their major. Because of the large number of manufactures already established in Longview and Marshall, this applied engineering degree will be a great benefit to many of the companies in this area.”

“We are partnering with Kilgore College and TSTC in Marshall to remove road blocks and create pathways for students pursuing this type of degree. These courses are just the first steps and as we grow, additional courses and labs will be added to the LUC curriculum. The result of this collaboration between our three institutions will be a well trained workforce that is prepared for employment as production supervisors, procurement managers, safety and plant managers, manufacturing engineers, inventory managers, technical sales representatives, project engineers and industrial engineers,” said Patterson. “These students will meet the needs of the local workforce while also helping our communities attract additional industries to the region.”
