Students who graduate from The University of Texas at Tyler have a strong potential to earn competitive salaries, according to information compiled and released recently by the U.S. Department of Education, UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

On Saturday, the department unveiled the College Scorecard system in response to an initiative from President Barak Obama to provide a comprehensive database on schools around the nation.

In a White House press release, Obama said the scorecard system gives families reliable data on factors such as earning potential of graduates, cost, student loan debt and how likely students are to graduate.

“We are proud that The University of Texas at Tyler overall outperformed all other East Texas public universities,” President Mabry said. “This system is another tool to show what we have known for years, that UT Tyler offers the best education for the lowest cost anywhere. UT Tyler helps students get high-paying careers without incurring large amounts of college debt.”

UT Tyler’s scorecard reports that the median salary of university graduates 10 years after enrolling in school is $41,600 per year, $7,200 per year higher than the median for students from all U.S. universities.

UT Tyler students also pay $4,500 less a year to attend the university than the national average.

“Our students get the benefits of an excellent education from a University of Texas System institution while attending smaller classes taught by faculty who care about students,” Mabry said. “And on the College Scorecard, the success of our graduates clearly shows. I could not be more proud of our faculty, students and staff.”

The College Scorecard system can be found at collegescorecard.ed.gov.

One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler features excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 8,500 high-ability students. UT Tyler offers courses at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine as well as a location in Houston.
