The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Music will present the first concert in the UT Tyler Fall 2015 Jazz Artist Series, Dr. Michael Thrasher, School of Performing Arts director, announced.

The public concert, featuring the UT Tyler Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble with special guest drummer Stockton Helbing, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 in the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.

In addition, Helbing will present two public masterclasses before the concert. The first will be 5 – 6 p.m. in the Braithwaite Recital Hall, and it will focus on Helbing’s entrepreneurial spirit that has led him to not only a career in performance, but also one as an author, entrepreneur, band leader, producer, composer, arranger, music director and educator. Helbing will also present a pre-concert lecture discussing jazz drum techniques at 6:30 p.m. in the Cowan Center.

To reserve seats for the masterclasses, contact Dr. Sarah Roberts, UT Tyler assistant professor of music, 903.566.7387 or sroberts@uttyler.edu.
