UT Tyler to Offer Workshop for Saxophonists March 26

The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Music will once again hold "UT Tyler Saxophone Day," Dr. Michael Thrasher, School of Performing Arts director, announced.
The public event is 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday, March 26 in the UT Tyler Center for the Musical Arts. Offered for all saxophonists of any age or ability, the day is filled with masterclasses and clinics exploring the many facets of playing the saxophone from jazz to classical, to solo and ensemble playing. In addition, participants will join together for a mass saxophone choir, which is one of the day's highlights. Register online or find out more.
"The purpose of this free workshop to provide an opportunity for area saxophonists to learn from incredible artists," said Dr. Sarah Roberts, event coordinator and assistant professor. "I strive to provide experiences for local students that they are not able to find anywhere else. In doing so I hope to add to their musical studies and passion for playing the saxophone."
Guest artists for this year's Saxophone Day are Drew Zaremba, an up-and-coming jazz artist who has gained notoriety for not only his extreme musical ability, but also his incredibly writing and arranging skills; and The Texas Saxophone Quartet, a group hailing from Dallas/Fort Worth that was the first saxophone quartet to win the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
