The University of Texas at Tyler will host G.B. Tran, author of the graphic novel, 'Vietnamerica,' Dr. Paul Streufert, executive director of special academic programs, announced.

Sponsored by the UT Tyler Honors and Global Awareness Through Education Programs, the event will be 6 p.m. Monday, April 18 in the University Center Theater.

"In his talk, Mr. Tran will discuss the graphic novel's story, its creation and publication and his work in the field of graphic design. Honors and GATE events are free and open to the public," Streufert said.

The book traces the journey of the author's parents from Vietnam, at the close of the Vietnam War, as they immigrated to the United States. Tran's book investigates the challenges of living in two cultures, as he and his siblings adapt to American culture, even as their parents struggle to adjust, Streufert added.
