The University of Texas at Tyler Iota Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for nursing has joined with East Texas Baptist University and Texas A&M Commerce University to form an at-large chapter.

A re-chartering ceremony and induction dinner was held at The Cascades Country Club in Tyler. Eighty-nine nursing students and nurses were inducted, with their current and future contributions recognized.

"A charter amendment was gained in November 2015, and our local chapter will now be the Iota Nu Chapter At-Large with a purpose to advance knowledge, participate in collaboration and service and to establish an atmosphere of life-long learning. We are thrilled to celebrate this meaningful event," said Connie Wyszynski, Iota Nu-At-Large president.

This important partnership expands on opportunities to meet the mission of Sigma Theta Tau, which is to provide leadership and scholarship in nursing practice, education and research, enhance the health of all people and support the learning and professional development of members. The Iota Nu Chapter, with more than 325 current members, was originally established in 1985 and chartered on March 13, 1988.

"This historic re-chartering and induction dinner and ceremony marks the beginning of a broader impact to influence nursing in East Texas," said Dr. Colleen Marzilli, UT Tyler assistant professor and chapter officer. "Among those inducted are undergraduate students who show a wonderful promise to advance nursing and current registered nurses working to complete their baccalaureate degree, master's degree and doctoral degree. Nursing leaders were also inducted into this important organization for nurses."
