Kapka

Kathy Kapka has been elected the 2016-17 chair of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Dr. James Lumpkin, The University of Texas at Tyler College of Business and Technology dean, announced.

A UT Tyler double alumna, Kapka will serve a one-year term as the society's volunteer leader. In this role, she will chair the organization's board of directors, which sets policy, manages programs and oversees activities designed to serve Texas CPAs.

She currently serves as a senior lecturer of accounting in the UT Tyler Department of Accounting, Finance and Business Law. Kapka joined the UT Tyler faculty in August 2010 with more than 25 years of accounting and auditing experience. She previously served as UT Tyler's chief audit executive 1999 – 2010.

"It is an honor and privilege to represent the university and East Texas CPAs as I serve in this position," Kapka said.

Kapka has been a TSCPA member for more than 30 years, and she has served on the board of directors of the East Texas Chapter in several positions, including 2009-10 president. She currently serves on the TSCPA Executive Board, TSCPA Board of Directors, TSCPA Ethics Committee and TSCPA Professional Standards Committee, where she served as 2010-12 chair. Kapka has served on several TSCPA committees, including serving as chair of the Professional Standards Committee.  She has also served as the Accounting Principles Committee chair for the Association of College and University Auditors and on the Accounting Principles Council for the National Association of College and University Business Officers.

In 2012, she received the Outstanding Service Award from ACUA and the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award – Small Institution from TSCPA. Kapka was also recognized with the Outstanding Board Member Award and the Outstanding Service to the Profession Award from the East Texas Chapter.
She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from UT Tyler.
