The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University Center and Texas State Technical College in Marshall have developed a partnership to provide students a pathway to a bachelor's degree.

Students majoring in computer aided drafting and design, industrial maintenance, industrial controls technology and computer aided manufacturing will earn an associate of applied science from TSTC and then pursue the UT Tyler bachelor of science in industrial technology degree at the Longview University Center.

"We welcome this opportunity to collaborate with Texas State Technical College in an effort that will benefit students and employers across the region," said UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry. "Our industrial technology program is offered at both our Tyler and Longview campuses and is one of only two such programs accredited by the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering in the State of Texas.

"Employers understand the value of an ATMAE accredited program, and as a result our graduates typically receive several job offers following graduation," Mabry added.

The program includes instruction in optimization theory, human factors, organizational behavior, industrial processes, industrial planning procedures, computer applications; and report and presentation preparation.

"No program in the State of Texas transfers more technical courses into a bachelor of science degree than the Industrial Technology program at The University of Texas at Tyler," said Dr. Mark Miller, UT Tyler professor and technology department chair. "As a result, graduates from TSTC technical programs will finally have an option for furthering their education without having to start all over."

The program also is unique in that in addition to a heavy dose of technical courses, students earn a minor in business administration.

"Classes in accounting, management, marketing and supply chain management provide them with the knowledge necessary to operate effectively in a business environment," Miller added.

In turn, students are richly prepared for various management-oriented technical careers.

"We welcome the opportunity to partner with the team at UT Tyler in our continuing effort to place more Texans in great paying careers across the state," said Barton Day, TSTC provost. "Clearly, answering the growing need for a technically trained workforce is, and should be, a primary goal of our institutions of Higher Ed. We're proud to be part of those efforts."
