The University of Texas at Tyler is a finalist for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 2016 Star Award, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

UT Tyler has been recognized for its Insight Motivated Marketing 360 curriculum within the Department of Management and Marketing.

"Being one of six Star Award finalists from across the state is one highly visible example of how we are building distinction in our programs in the College of Business and Technology and providing our students the marketable skills necessary for successful business careers," said College of Business and Technology dean Dr. James R. Lumpkin.

UT Tyler's IMM360 program provides marketing students a set of general and specific marketable skills through a 360-degree view of how suppliers and retailers work together to serve their customers. IMM360 offers a curriculum designed to help students understand the role of data in marketing decision making and uses state-of-the-industry technology and data from resources such as The Nielsen Company, JDA, Learning Evolutions and SAP.

"IMM360 develops the critical thinking skills necessary to generate consumer insights through data and provides students access to and experience with these state-of-the-art tools and software developing the marketable skills employers in high-demand fields are seeking," said Dr. Robert Paul Jones, assistant professor of marketing and Center for Retail Enterprises director.

The winner will be announced at a reception on Wednesday, Oct. 26 in Austin.

One of only four nationwide programs accredited by the Category Management Association, UT Tyler's bachelor of business administration program in marketing provides exceptional preparation for careers in advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations and sales.

Students gain the conceptual, creative and analytical skills that bring success in a fast-paced marketing career or for further studies in graduate school.

The UT Tyler College of Business and Technology provides valuable experience through its research centers, labs, student organizations and external internships. For additional information, visit uttyler.edu/cbt/.
