D.M. Edwards has been named the new chair of The University of Texas at Tyler Development Board for a two-year term.

As chair, Edwards will lead an extensive group of volunteers who support the university's programs and special events.

"D.M. Edwards has been an extraordinary supporter of UT Tyler, and of higher education in this region, for many years. We are honored to have such a strong partner in the mission to help our students succeed and look forward to working with him in this new role," said UT Tyler President Michael Tidwell.

An established businessman, Edwards has been giving to UT Tyler since 1997. Edwards is also the UT Tyler College of Nursing and Health Sciences Advisory Council chair. In this position, he helped establish two D.M. Edwards Presidential Endowed Scholarships in Nursing. Additionally, Edwards is involved with the UT Tyler College of Business and Technology's Economic Summit and Executive Speaker Series. He most recently underwrote, in memory of his parents, the university's Center for the Musical Arts with the naming of the Davida and Welby C. Edwards orchestra room.

Other memberships include UT Tyler President's Associates, Literacy Council of Tyler, Rotary Club of Tyler, East Texas Symphony Orchestra Foundation and Friends of the Arts.

Edwards holds a bachelor of business administration in marketing and management from Baylor University as well as an honorary doctorate in humanities from East Texas Baptist University. He is chairman/CEO of the commercial real estate business, D.M. Edwards Investments, and the owner/president/CEO of warehousing and distribution businesses in several cities.
