The University of Texas at Tyler will once again sponsor events celebrating Darwin Day.
This year's Darwin Day celebration features activities for children, evolutionary-themed video screenings, public science lectures and a professional development workshop for primary and secondary school teachers.
Among events, The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Biology will present moderated videos 10:10 a.m. – 3:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 in the University Center, room 3140.
A reception for the 2017 Darwin Day keynote speaker Dr. Eugenie Scott will be 5 p.m. that evening in the University Center theater. She will present a public science lecture, "What Would Darwin Say to Today's Creationists?" beginning at 6 p.m. in the theater.
In addition, The University of Texas at Tyler faculty and staff will present videos
and interactive displays about biodiversity 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at
the Discovery Science Place, a University of Texas at Tyler center.
Darwin Day seeks to recognize the benefits of scientific exploration and discovery.
Similar events are held worldwide on or near Feb. 12, the birthday anniversary of
evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin.
