The University of Texas at Tyler officials presented faculty awards for outstanding achievement and dedication during 2017 Convocation Aug. 25.

"We are honored to have such dedicated faculty members here who are all great professors, researchers and experts in their fields," President Michael Tidwell said. "We are proud to recognize this group's outstanding dedication and share in their accomplishment."

Award recipients are:

Dr. X. Neil Dong, associate professor of health and kinesiology – President's Scholarly Achievement Award
This award recognizes outstanding scholarly achievements by a faculty member. Selections are made by a university committee.

Dr. Kerri Camp, assistant professor of marketing – Provost's Excellence in Teaching Award
The Provost's Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes faculty whose excellence in undergraduate teaching resulted in their nomination for the UT System Board of Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award.

Dr. Joshua Banta, assistant professor of biology; and Dr. Lindsey-Kay Lauderdale, assistant professor of mathematics – Jack and Dorothy Faye White Fellowship for Teaching Excellence
This honor recognizes excellence in teaching. Nominations are made by both university faculty and students.

Lauderdale – 2017-18 Piper Professor nominee
This honor focuses on the nominee's overall excellence in both teaching and scholarly achievement at The University of Texas at Tyler. Nominees are made by faculty and become the university's candidate for the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Excellence in Teaching award, which annually recognizes 15 professors for superior teaching at the college level in Texas. This nominee also automatically receives the university's White Fellowship.

Officials also recognized senior lecturer in economics Susan Doty, who was named to the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers earlier this year, as well as associate professor of education Dr. Julie Delello and senior lecturer in history Dr. James Newsom, who each received the 2017 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award.
