The University of Texas at Tyler announced its UT System Regents' Outstanding Employee Award recipient, Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor Jason DiStefano.

DiStefano is one of 30 Systemwide staff who each received $10,000 in recognition of exceptional workplace performance, innovation, enthusiasm and dedication. The UT System Board of Regents created the award in November 2016 to recognize full-time, benefits eligible, non-faculty System employees who have shown such commitment. Selection is based on the employee's stellar impact and how this impact has enhanced their institution.

"We are very pleased to have the Board of Regents recognize the impact that Jason has had on our student success," said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, UT Tyler Provost.

Serving UT Tyler since August 2004, DiStefano was recognized in Austin.

"Jason's dedication to student success is impossible to miss," said Dr. Neil Gray, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Chair at UT Tyler. "He patiently teaches students and lab assistants about the safety practices, instrumentation, lab techniques and hard work needed to be a successful UT Tyler chemistry student. Most importantly, Jason sets a great example of what it means to be responsible, dependable and passionate about learning."

A member of the prestigious UT System, The University of Texas at Tyler focuses on student success and innovative research in the more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered. With more than 10,000 students, UT Tyler has facilities in Tyler, Longview, Palestine and Houston.
