Dr. Dan Murphree, assistant professor of history at The University of Texas at Tyler, led the first 2008 Great Decisions discussion held at the Tyler Public Library.

At the first in a series of eight foreign policy discussions, Murphree presented "Latin America: A Shift to the Left?" He shared his experience about Latin America and discussed topics such as the relationships between the United States and Latin America, as well as challenges that face the regions.

Murphree holds a master’s of arts and Ph.D. from Florida State University.

He earned the Thomas M. Campbell Award for Teaching Excellence in 1999 as a faculty member at Florida State University. At UT Tyler, Murphree received the Junior Faculty Research grant and was nominated for the Excellence in Teaching Award.
