Dr. Alex Mendoza, assistant professor of history, was invited to be the principle speaker at the Longstreet Society's Annual Meeting on Oct. 10 - 11 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Titled "Struggle for Command: James Longstreet and the First Corps in East Tennessee," Dr. Mendoza's talk centered on the Civil War general who is the focus of his recently published book Confederate Struggle for Command: General James Longstreet and the First Corps in the West (Texas A&M University Press, 2008).

The Longstreet Society is an organization comprised of both professional and non-professional historians interested in scholarship dedicated to Longstreet and his impact on U.S. history.
