Vicki Betts, librarian, has published the essay, "A Sacred Charge Upon Our Hands: Assisting the Families of Confederate Soldiers in Texas, 1861-1865," in Kenneth W. Howell's edited work, The Seventh Star of the Confederacy: Texas During the Civil War (University of North Texas Press, 2009).

Her research interest includes mid-19th century U.S. history and the history of Smith County, Texas.
