Dr. Blake Bextine, assistant professor of biology, currently is a subject editor (Arthropods in Relation to Plant Disease) for the Journal of Economic Entomology.

It is one of the major journals for the field of entomology and is published through the Entomological Society of America.

His laboratory at UT Tyler mainly focuses to develop tactics for managing and techniques for diagnosing insect-transmitted pathogens that cause disease in plants.

Bextine holds a bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Northern Iowa, a master's in entomology at Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in entomology from Oklahoma State University.
