| History/Background
on nursing pin:
First used
in 1892, gold in the shape of a gold nugget embossed with a large
lone star hanging from a bar below the pin. A few years later,
the current design with the lone star on top of the gold nugget
was adapted when the Galveston school of nursing became a part
of the University of Texas System. Nursing programs around the
world have their own distinct pin. In the past years, nursing
programs also had distinct caps. Today, the nursing pin represents
the alma mater for their school of nursing. |
| Pinners:
(4th
level students only)
Choose a
RN to pin you. This may be a co-worker, relative, or friend that
is a RN. The pinner can be a faculty member.
If you would like a faculty member to be your pinner, you are
to ask the faculty if they are planning to attend the convocation
ceremony and if they are willing to pin you. Also, you are responsible
for notifying the faculty member prior to the ceremony.
If you do not know a RN, Dr. Klotz, Dean of the College of Nursing
and Health Sciences, will confer the pin. It would be best if
you give your pinner your pin prior to the ceremony. If Dr. Klotz
pins you, you will bring the pin with you onto the stage. |
Hooding
Ceremony:
Master's
students will receive their hood as part of the convocation ceremony.
Caps,
gowns, and hoods need to be ordered through UT Bookstore, deadline
