NURSING STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

The University of Texas at Tyler

ACTIVITY POINT SYSTEM

The Activity Point System for members of the Nursing Students’ Association at The University of Texas at Tyler (NSA) was adopted as a method of identifying the contributions of members of the organization for the purpose of

    1. Encouraging initiation of commitment,
    2. Encouraging consistency in responsibility, and
    3. Providing an equitable method of selecting students to
      1. Receive financial support to participate in NSA sponsored trips and
      2. Be selected as delegates, alternates or representatives of NSA.

Activity Points represent a value of time and effort extended by the student during their tenure in the nursing program related to NSA, the pre-professional organization. Activities which provide points support the three purposes of NSA: contribution to the nursing program, professional concerns, and health care of people in all walks of life.

The accruement of activity points can begin as soon as a new student enters the nursing program and become members of NSA each long semester. In addition to duties of officers and representatives, NSA members are encouraged to contact their class representative or the Chairperson of Program and Projects Committee, as well as the NSA Web Page (www.mail.uttyl.edu) regarding areas of participation. In order to be successful, students are encouraged to balance academic responsibilities with NSA and community service participation.

Annual trips include Texas Nursing Students’ Association (TNSA) Council of Schools (Sept./Oct.), TNSA annual convention (Feb./March), and National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) annual convention (April). The number of students sponsored for each trip depends on available funds, members running for office, number of local members, and student interest.

The following activity point allocation system will be used by individual members on the attached form to record NSA activity points. When activity points are used for a trip, the points will be subtracted from the total amount by an advisor, initialed, and dated.

In the case of a tie, the NSA student with the greatest number of community service hours would be selected to serve. Those NSA students who do not have activity points, may attend trips by paying a greater portion of their fees.
