Louise Dietrich Nursing Education Loan Fund

Exclusively for Texas Nurses Association (TNA) members

 

Educational loan funds of $500 to $2,000 are available to TNA members who are furthering their nursing education.  The A. Louise Dietrich Nursing Education Loan Fund is open to a TNA member who is a student or who is accepted for admission for part-time or full-time study in a Texas college or university nursing program that offers a BSN, master's or doctoral degree in nursing and is NLN accredited.  Applications are available in Members Only on the TNA web site, www.texasnurses.org, or by phoning 800-862-2022.

  Dietrich, whom the fund honors, was one of the founding organizers in 1907 of TNA, and served as its first executive director.

NLN Foundation for Nursing Education

 

New Nurse Educator Scholarship Program

Supports Students in Master's and Post-Master's Programs

Preparing to Teach in Academic Settings

 

The National League for Nursing (NLN) and its subsidiary, the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education, announced a new Nurse Educator Scholarship Program designed to address the shortage of nursing faculty.  The program is funded in part by a grant from Johnson & Johnson to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education, and also by funds raised from local events sponsored by Johnson & Johnson in major cities, as part of their Campaign for Nursing's Future.  The NLN Foundation for Nursing Education administers the program.

 

The NURSE EDUCATOR SCHOLRSHIP PROGRAM supports both full-and part-time study in master's or post-master's nursing programs:

 

§         Awards up to $5,000 for part-time study

§         Awards up to $10,000 for full-time study

 

Eligibility

§         Fully-matriculated admission to/enrollment in a master's or post-master's program that prepares nurses to teach in an academic setting

§         Satisfactory academic performance and continuous enrollment throughout the scholarship period

§         Enrollment over the course of the academic year in at least 12 semester hours for a scholarship for part-time OR at least 21 semester hours for a scholarship for full-time study

 

NOTE: At the request of the funders, priority will be given to qualified applicants who reside in or are admitted to/enrolled in a program within a 100-mile radius of one of the six cities where the first series of benefits will be held: Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Phoenix, or San Francisco.

 

Applications must be submitted to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education on or before June 1.  Applicants will be notified of the review decisions on or before July 15.

NURSE EDUCATION LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM

 

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is now taking applications for the Nurse Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP).  ANA was instrumental in obtaining funding increases for this program, which provides up to 85% of student loan debt for nurses who work in eligible facilities located in areas experiencing a shortage of nurses.  The purpose of the NELRP is to assist in the recruitment and retention of professional nurses dedicated to providing health care to under served populations.  HRSA is accepting FY 2002 Application now, they are due June 14.  Determination of which eligible applicants will receive an award is based on a four-tier preference scale based on the availability of funds.

 

A person who has received a baccalaureate or associate degree in nursing, a diploma in nursing, or a graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing is eligible.  More information and the application materials are available online at

MARCH OF DIMES GRADUATE NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

 

We are pleased to offer four $5,000 scholarships to recognize and promote excellence in nursing care of mothers and infants.  Qualified scholarship applicants are registered nurses currently enrolled in a graduate program in maternal-child nursing at the Master's or Doctorate level with at least one academic term to complete after May.  Accepting applications only via e-mail.             This scholarship is awarded to an emergency nurse (RN, LPN, or LVN) pursuing an advanced clinical practice degree to become a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist.  Priority for funding will be given to nurses focusing on cardiac nursing, including cardiac resuscitation.  Support for this scholarship is provided by Medtronic Physio-Control.  Applicants must be ENA members for a minimum of twelve (12) months prior to applying.

            This scholarship supports an emergency nurse (RN, LPN, or LVN) pursuing an advanced degree.  It was established in memory of Karen M. O'Neil, who was a recipient of an ENA Foundation scholarship herself.  O'Neil was a unique individual whose involvement and dedication to her profession touched her patients, colleagues, and her community.  O'Neil, her family, and her friends have provided this opportunity as a way to remember her tireless energy, her uplifting spirit, and her commitment to emergency nursing.  Applicants must be ENA member for a minimum of twelve (12) months prior to applying.

            This scholarship is awarded to a nurse (RN, LPN, LVN) pursuing a doctoral degree.  It has been made possible through contributions to the Foundation in memory of Pamela Stinson Kidd.  Kidd was a longtime member of ENA and served on the ENA Board of Directors and the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing, as well as numerous ENA committees.  Kidd was an exemplary educator and nurse researcher who mentored many nurses.  Applicants must be ENA member for a minimum of twelve (12) months prior to applying.
