The NSA is a pre-professional
organization for nursing students who are in the
undergraduate program. The organization helps to prepare students for some of the issues
they will face while in school and on the job. NSA also strives to help students to be
aware of the professionalism needed in nursing.
Each local chapter is a member of the State
organization as well as NSNA, the National organization. UT Tyler NSA delegates and members often attend both conventions each year.
NSA organizes fundraisers so that members can attend the conventions as well as for
community service projects. Members have opportunities to run for office, gain
leadership skills, and serve UT Tyler and the College of Nursing. Additionally, NSA
helps students to participate in a variety of community activities. The student who has the
most community service hours at their Convocation is recognized with the Marian Rowe
Community Service Award. Students who accumulate as many as 50 community service
hours during the undergraduate program are recognized at Convocation as a Community
Service Scholar.
