Nurse Practitioner Admission Requirements

(upon completion of graduate core)

• a. Application to TTUHSC College of Nursing

• b. GPA of 3.0 or better in upper division work (on 4.0 scale) and any graduate level work, if such applies.

• c. Acceptable references (4):
  1. Faculty member in the baccalaureate or graduate program.
  2. Immediate supervisor in most recent employment setting.
  3. Peer in work setting (R.N. only).
  4. One other reference.
  
• d. Cultural diversity.
  
• e. Career goals.
  
• f. A sample of the applicant’s writing skill (e.g. term papers, manuscripts, or reports).
  
• g. Interview with TTUHASC College of Nursing Admission Committee member (optional).
  
• h. Current certification in BCLS/ACLS.
  
• i. Achieve a score of 1000 on a combination of the verbal/quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or a normative score on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) at the 50th percentile or above for nursing. Entrance Exam requirement may be waived with acceptable GPA.

The Graduate Studies Committee reviews completed applications to the UT Tyler graduate program. Deadline for filing applications for Fall admission is March 1, and for Spring admission, October 1. NP students are admitted to the TTUHSC clinical tracks in the spring only. Post-master’s FNP students are admitted to the TTUHSC clinical track in the fall only. Applicant inquiries concerning the program are encouraged. The Assistant Dean for Advanced Practice advises prospective NP students regarding specific program details.
