Can I take pathophysiology and/or nursing concepts and theories somewhere other than UT-Tyler? Yes, but you must submit a course description of the course so that we can determine transferability. The general rule is if it is a University level course then we will accept. TWU, the UT system schools and Baylor all have a patho that we have accepted in the past. Pathophysiology will not transfer from the community college
Can I take pharmacology somewhere other than UT-Tyler? Same answer as above, however, we are required by field of study to accept RNSG 1201 or 1301 from the community college. Pharmacology for the health professional from the community college will not transfer
How do I know if I am core complete? Every public institution in the state of Texas must indicate core complete on their transcript by law. If the transcript does not indicate core complete, then they are not. Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) is the only exception, if they receive an Associate of Art degree from TVCC they are core complete there. An associate degree does not make a student core complete necessarily. Please remember students who are core complete are only required to complete stats, A&P 1, 2, Micro, Chem, Nut, G&D, and Intro to Psyc., even if they are missing some core classes. A second degree seeking student (bachelor degree or higher) is also considered core complete. The student must be core complete before completing one (1) semester at UT Tyler. Once the students has completed a semester here, core completion from another institution will not be honored.
How do I know if I have to take critical thinking? If a student is not core complete nor do they hold a bachelor degree, they are required to take critical thinking. If they become core complete at another institution then they will not have to complete critical thinking.
How do I know if my courses transferred? The College of Nursing will perform a transcript evaluation based on the degree audit completed by the Office of Admissions when the student applies to the University. If a student is not currently enrolled in a required course the student will be contacted by email.
Can I attend part-time in the program? Yes, however, you must complete the program within 6 semesters (2 additional semesters). Please see section on part-time enrollment on this website
Can I enter the program lacking any core curriculum or nursing prerequisite courses? No, with the exception of critical thinking, all others must be completed
I have been cleared to register but, it says I do not have the prerequisites?
If you are trying to register for a nursing course (NURS) and campus connect tells you that you do not meet prerequisites then you need to be cleared to register through the undergraduate or graduation nursing office. All nursing students (completing the program) must meet with their advisor each semester and be cleared in order to register.
