Doctorate in Nursing
Application to the PhD in Nursing Program
Priority Deadline: March 1
The application process consists of several steps:
1. Complete an on-line application at: https://www.applytexas.org/
2. Submit the following to the Graduate Admissions Office (The University of Texas at Tyler, 3900 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75799):
• $25.00 application fee made payable to: UT Tyler
• Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores
• An official transcript from each college attended
• TOEFL scores (if applicable)
3. Submit the following to the Graduate Nursing Office (College of Nursing, The University of Texas at Tyler, 3900 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75799):
• curriculum vitae or resume
• copy of current license to practice professional nursing
• three letters of recommendation (preferably, at least one of which is academic)
• an essay linking projected research to health in your community within a context of culture (guidelines follow)"
Letters of Recommendation Guidelines
1. Request letters from three individuals who can speak to your potential for doctoral study and research competencies.
2. Download the letter of recommendation template and print out three copies. Complete the top section that indicates your name, whether or not you waive the right to review, and sign it.
3. Ask the reviewers to send the letter of recommendation to the Graduate Nursing Office (address above).
Essay Guidelines
Purpose: To determine the applicant’s areas of research interest (population, intervention, and/or concepts) and their relationship to health in communities within the context of culture.
Instructions:
1. Identify your areas of interest. These may be concepts, nursing interventions, a population, or any combination of these.
2. Write a 3-5 page essay about your areas of interest. Describe your interest in the population, concepts, or interventions identified. Link your areas of interest to health in your community within the context of culture
3. Essays should be double-spaced with one-inch margins. Please use a 12-point font.
