The Members of Iota Nu Rocks!

Our Chapter  is to be awarded the Chapter Key Award for the second time in a row at Biennial Convention this year and it is all because of the activities of its members. As cited from the STTI Website, “The Key Chapter Award…honers chapters who excel in chapter-related activities such as membership recruitment and retention, publicity and programming, professional and leadership development and local, national and international collaboration.” Thus our chapter is being recognized for all of the great activities of its members and the members of the Board want to say thank you and keep doing what you are doing. Just remember to let us know so that we can document it for the next biennium. We want to fill our banner with keys. With that said we also wanted to let you know with what is going on this month with Iota Nu. We had our fall meeting on September 15 at Papacitas in Longview. Jenifer Chilton, one of our previous grant recipients, presented her research on Epiphanies and Wellness: The Lived Experience.  Her presentation was enlightening as we learned how and when the participants in her research, all with serious conditions, realized they had to reach for wellness. We had a great turnout with over 40 members attending. For this upcoming month we will be participating in the Alzheimer’s Walk in Longview on Oct 10 and/or in Tyler on Oct 22. We really encourage everyone to come out and join us. It is a great time to network with other members and it is for a great cause. Finally our annual induction is scheduled for October 20th at 6pm at the Ornelas Activity Center. We really encourage everyone to come out and celebrate this great moment with our inductees. For any information on these events or any comments/ideas please contact me. Helene Hakim, President;  hhakim@uttyler.edu

Regional Excellence Award

At Leader Academy, Iota Nu President, Helene Hakim, was honored to receive the Regional Excellence Award on behalf of the chapter. The Award was in recognition for our Guatemala Service Project. This is the second time Iota Nu was recognized with such an award.

In addition to the award, Board Members,  Karen Timmons, Bonnie Everage and Helene Hakim, attended many informative sessions at Leader Academy and had the thrill of touring STTI Headquarters.

Biennial Convention: Iota Nu Earns Chapter Key Award!!

In November 2007, President Barbara Haas, President-elect Helene Hakim, and Past-President Carole McKenzie were in Baltimore to attend the 39th biennial convention and accept the first Chapter Key Award for Iota Nu! This extraordinary achievement was due to the hard work of many, many members and our secretary, Lynn Summers, in particular. Lynn put together an outstanding application that highlighted the chapter's achievements during the 38th biennium.
