Message From the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs
Welcome to the undergraduate program in the College of Nursing (CON) at the University of Texas at Tyler. I am privileged to serve as the Associate Dean for this outstanding program and have great pride in the accomplishments of the students, faculty, and staff.
We have provided the highest quality undergraduate education since 1975 when the first class of RN-BSN students was admitted. In 1982 the generic BSN program admitted the first class of 24 students and has grown to admitting 150 highly qualified generic students each semester. Our students are very successful on the NCLEX exam for licensure and work in multiple sites across the nation.
In addition to the regular generic track, the Mobility in Nursing Education (MINE) track for registered nurses provides the registered nurse the option to complete the BSN, or continue through to the MSN. This track admits approximately 35 each semester. Our RN-BSN/MSN track is a totally WEB-based offering. Once admitted the RN can complete the degree requirements in 12 months of full time study. The CON realizes the commitments for the registered nurse so part-time study is an option. The flexibility of this track has attracted applicants from across the state of Texas and across the country.
The CON is the only generic BSN program in Texas to offer the entire program via interactive video (ITV) to two distance sites, Longview and Palestine, Texas. The distance sites are fully functional University of Texas at Tyler campuses. The CON is supported through a staff of full-time nursing faculty, lab personnel, and administrative support. Nursing pre-admission counselors are available on each campus to provide guidance in the admission process. The availability of these campuses affords students the opportunity to access their education without long commutes to the main campus and clinical sites.
The undergraduate program is fully accredited through the The Texas Board of Nursing and nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Please take time to tour our WEB site and we look forward to working with you as a potential student in our program.
