UT Tyler: Making an Impact
The University of Texas at Tyler is a growing and vibrant university making a significant impact on the lives of East Texans. Nobel-prize nominee Ray Perryman Ph.D. assessed UT Tyler’s impact on Tyler and all of East Texas in a recently completed report, “The University of Texas at Tyler: Enhancing the Economy and Quality of Life of the East Texas Region.” A highly regarded economist, Perryman examined the expanding impact of the region’s only comprehensive public university.

Comprehensive public universities, like UT Tyler, have the potential to enrich communities in broad and significant ways. The study found UT Tyler to be making an impact in four ways. UT Tyler is improving the quality of education at all levels, generating economic activity in the region, enhancing the health and wellness of East Texans, and is offering cultural and entertainment opportunities that improve the quality of life in East Texas.
UT Tyler is a growing and vibrant university that enhances numerous aspects of the lives of all East Texans. Its presence is an essential element of local economic prosperity, educational attainment, healthcare delivery, and cultural diversity. Its ongoing expansion and perpetual innovations bode well for increasing the capacity of the region to be a vital part of the global and technological business complex of the 21st century.

The Perryman Report on UT Tyler

The Perryman Group evaluated the economic impact of UT Tyler on local, regional, and state business activity. The investigation included both an assessment of the current impact and the potential future growth patterns of the University. In addition, Ray Perryman, who has been nominated for a Nobel Prize in economics, studied more broadly the impact of UT Tyler on the region’s education, health care, and cultural quality of life.
