Making an Impact on Health and Wellness

With programs in nursing, mental health counseling, and kinesiology recognized for outstanding quality, UT Tyler is producing practitioners who are making a significant difference in the region’s health and wellness.

UT Tyler alumni are serving the mental health needs of the region as Licensed Professional Counselors in social support agencies, corporations, and hospitals. UT Tyler psychology students contribute thousands of hours annually through psychological services internships.
Healthcare is a major employer in East Texas, contributing $10.9 billion in annual spending and 96,078 permanent jobs. Without the existence of UT Tyler and the resulting trained nursing workforce, this level of care would not be possible in East Texas.

Nursing graduates of UT Tyler represent 4 of every 10 practicing registered nurses in East Texas. Now the third largest nursing program in the state, UT Tyler is the fastest growing nursing program in the state.

The impact is significant in a region of the state where the Texas Department of Health Services has designated many counties as medically underserved. Thirteen of the region’s fifteen counties have fewer RN’s per capita than the state average.

However, one does not need to be ill to enjoy the benefits of UT Tyler’s exemplary nursing program. All who work in this important industry depend upon the ability of UT Tyler to supply the region’s registered nurses.
